About this event
LGBTQ+ in HSE, ABE, and ESOL Panel Discussion
Description: While LGBTQ+ students and teachers are certainly present in our adult education classes, standard classroom and program-level practices may not leave them feeling seen, respected, represented, and free to fully express themselves. Effectively addressing these challenges at any level means addressing them at all levels. In order to provide this broad perspective, this panel discussion will feature the voices of students, teachers, and program managers, who will provide an expansive look at steps we can take to ensure that LGBTQ+ adult learners and staff feel welcome and respected in our classrooms and in our programs. There will be an emphasis on ESOL teaching strategies and significant time will be allotted within the session for small group discussions and Q&A.
